What Are The Symptoms For Low Thyroid (Hypothyroidism)?

Hypothyroidism Symptoms

  • Fatigue. Low thyroid function can result in less energy.

  • Cold intolerance. You may feel chilly even when others around you are comfortable.

  • Appetite loss, weight gain. With lower energy needs, you require fewer calories, so your appetite declines. Yet, you may gain a few pounds because your body converts fewer calories into energy, leaving more to be stored as fat.

  • Cardiovascular effects. Low levels of thyroid hormone can lead to high blood pressure and elevated levels of total and LDL cholesterol.

  • Mental effects. Hypothyroidism and depression share many of the same symptoms, including difficulty in concentrating, memory problems, and loss of interest in things that are normally important to you. They call for different treatments, so proper diagnosis is important.

  • Other signs and symptoms. Slowed metabolism reduces sweating, the skin’s natural moisturizer, so the skin may become dry and flaky and nails brittle. Hair may thin or become coarse. Digestive processes slow, causing constipation. Speech and movement may also slow down. Muscle aches and pain around the joints, including carpal tunnel syndrome, are common.

Hypothyroidism Treatment

Much like treating low testosterone, hypothyroidism is treated by replacing or supplementing the deficient T3 and T4 hormones with hormone medication to bring levels up and then keep them within an optimal range. We will check your TSH, free T3, free T4, reverse T3, thyroid antibodies, and other do other diagnostic tests to optimize your hormone levels.

Unlike conventional medicine where Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothroid, and other levothyroxine products contain only a synthetic version of T4, the inactive form of thyroid hormone. Taking T4 without T3 is like replacing only 7 out of 8 spark plugs in your car’s engine. Your body’s “engine” will run, but it will never function as well as it should.

In contract, Armour Thyroid or desiccated thyroid, contains the same thyroid hormone molecules that the body produces, T3 and T4. Armour Thyroid is an FDA-approved thyroid extract that’s formulated according to the exacting standards of the United States Pharmacopoeia. Amour Thyroid and other natural thyroid medications (i.e., NP-Thyroid, Nature-Thyroid, WP Thyroid, Compounded Liothyronine/Levothyroxine Non-Porcine, etc.) are bioidentical to the thyroid hormones produced in a human body.
